Assessment
These assessments created for English 9 Newcomers have taken their needs and levels of proficiency into account. The assessments consist of four reading standards and two writing standards. The reading standards are assessed first upon the completion of the text, Of Mice and Men. The writing standards are then assessed after three weeks of working through the literary analysis and writing processes. The reading goals consist of the following literary elements: sequence of events, complex character development, textual evidence, and theme. The latter element is the foundation for the literary analysis thesis paragraph.
This assessment created for English 9 Newcomers includes features such as images, variety of question types, simplified sentence structure, T-Chart format, and adapted text. There are various versions (this is Version B) to meet the needs of various levels of proficiency. This assessment assesses learners' knowledge of expository text features and text structures. After this assessment, learners create an infographic project comparing and contrasting text features, structures, purpose, audience, and the central idea between two expository texts.
